In celebrating St Patrick's Day, it's often customary to wear shamrocks, green clothing, or green accessories. Green has been associated with Ireland since at least the 1640s, when the green harp flag was used by the Irish Catholic Confederation. Green ribbons and shamrocks have also been worn on St Patrick's Day since at least the 1680s.

Closely tied to St Patrick’s Day are leprechauns, which have a rich history in Irish folklore. Tales of these little fairies were passed down from generation to generation. They were said to be "shoemakers who socked away their profits in pots at the end of rainbows, or scattered them around in mountains, forests, or rocks.” It is said that people have looked for leprechauns in search of their gold and good luck.
